The three mountains have witnessed many human feats, dramas and triumphs. Over 70 people have lost their lives attempting to conquer the deadly steep north face of the Eiger - stories of their heroic deeds have been filmed and recorded in numerous novels, stories, plays and poems. Since the flourishing of tourism, the Jungfrau Region has become a unique Swiss destination. The daring first ascent of the Jungfrau, Switzerland's first four-thousand-metre peak, by brothers Johann Rudolf and Hieronymus Meyer on August 3, 1811, marked the beginning of the touristic development in the Bernese Oberland. In 1863, Thomas Cook recognized the region's potential as a tourist destination. He travelled with 62 impressed English tourists from Geneva via the Valais region through the Jungfrau Region to Lucerne.

The Schilthorn - Piz Gloria at an altitude of 2,970 meters is world-famous for its 360° restaurant and as the filming location for the Bond classic "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" from 1969. The revolving restaurant served as the base for the villain Blofeld and was given the name "Piz Gloria" in the film, which has stuck to this day. If you let your gaze wander, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama: the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and other peaks of the Bernese and Valais Alps stand majestically side by side. In very good weather conditions, the view extends as far as the Black Forest or the French Mont Blanc massif. In the Spy World on the Schilthorn, the interactive exhibition about the movie, visitors can immerse themselves in the filming and background stories of the James Bond movie on a tour of 7 key scenes.

In addition to the Eiger village of Grindelwald, the family-friendly Haslital and the iconic Lauterbrunnen, our villages of Wengen and Mürren are also located in the Jungfrau Region. Your customers can only reach these two charming mountain villages by public transportation from Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg. Hotel shuttles and luggage transportation from the train station to the hotel are nevertheless no problem. This can be arranged for every guest by booking it in advance with the hotel. Wengen and Mürren are ideal for families, couples or honeymooners precisely because there are not many cars. Apart from the sound of cowbells, the villages offer a particularly quiet, relaxing and natural atmosphere to forget everyday life and enjoy the mountain landscape with all your senses.

The four large ski areas of Grindelwald-Wengen, Grindelwald-First, Mürren-Schilthorn and Meiringen-Hasliberg make the Jungfrau Region an Eldorado for winter sports enthusiasts. Over 250 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes, state-of-the-art infrastructure, varied downhill runs, snow parks, ski cross trails, adventures on and off the slopes: The Jungfrau Region offers all this and much more in winter.

In 1911, the 19-year-old J.R.R. Tolkien was travelling in the Jungfrau Region. Hardly anyone knows that the successful British author drew his inspiration for the landscapes of "The Lord of the Rings" from the Lauterbrunnen Valley. And indeed, anyone familiar with the books and film adaptations will feel transported to Middle-earth from time to time. The 72 waterfalls in particular characterize the image of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The 297-metre-high Staubbach Falls is the landmark of Lauterbrunnen and the highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland. Due to the frequently occurring thermals, the water is sprayed in all directions, giving the waterfall its name.

The cuisine in the Jungfrau Region is as uniquely diverse as the destination itself. From traditional Swiss cuisine such as Cheese Fondue, Raclette or Rösti to international classics. You don't have to miss out on fine dining either. In the Jungfrau Region, your customers will find Gault Millau and Michelin-star rated restaurants. Lucerne is also just 2 hours away by train or car, like the Swiss capital city Bern with 1 hour. An entry or exit via Geneva airport also makes it possible for your customers to be in the region within 3 hours and to connect the French-speaking part of Switzerland with the Jungfrau Region.
